The aim of the project is to create a sculptural work of art with a unique and contemporary concept which will become an attractive and dignified legacy to G. J. Mendel.
Gregor Johann Mendel was a naturalist, the founder of genetics, and the discoverer of the Mendelian laws of inheritance. He was also a monk and later an abbot of the Augustinian monastery in Old Brno where he conducted his experiments crossing peas.
Mendel Festival is held annually on the occasion of G. J. Mendel’s birthday (in July). It is a multi-genre and multi-disciplinary event in which visitors can choose from a wide variety of activities – video mapping, open-air experiments, concerts, workshops for both children and adults, and laboratories. www.mendelje.cz
